Saddle Stitching:

Saddle stitching is the official name for a booklet with 2 “staples” on the spine.

Print Ready Artwork:

Print ready artwork is a pdf file that is set to the correct page size and has 3mm of bleed on all outside egdes.  Ideally showing crop marks but as long as the trim box is set then the crop marks are not required.  All text need to be converted to outlines.  Please note saddle stitched booklets must always have a page count divisible by four.

Paper sizes:

A5 = 148mm x 210mm

A4 = 210mm x 297mm

Bleed:

We require 3mm of bleed on all outside edges.  This is an industry standard and allows for movement during printing and finishing.

Crop Marks:

Crop marks are the thin lines at the edges that show where the flyer is to be cut.  If you drew straight lines and joined them all up it would show your finished flyer.

Converted to Curves:

Converted to curves (or converted to outlines) is a function that can be done within professional graphics packages to avoid any font issues when printing flyers.  This cannot be done when producing flyers for standard word processing packages. It will only be an issue if non standard fonts are used.

VAT on Booklets:

The VAT rules on booklets depend on the specification of the booklets.  The latest HMRC guidelines can be viewed here – VAT on BOOKLETS
